Midi Z , born in 1982 in Myanmar, graduated from the Graduate Institute of Design at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. He came to Taiwan to study at the age of 16 and obtained Taiwanese nationality in 2011. His films predominantly focus on the lives of Chinese communities in Myanmar. Both his narrative features and documentaries have received international recognition and acclaim at film festivals. In 2014, his narrative feature Ice Poison represented Taiwan in the race for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2016, he won the Best Film award from the European Film Awards at the 73rd Venice Film Festival for The Road to Mandalay, was nominated for Best Director at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards, and was honored as Taiwan’s Outstanding Filmmaker of the Year. |
