Inspired by Albert Lamorisse’s 1956 Oscar-Winning short film, Director Hou tells a simple story about a boy, Simon, who, together with his affectionate but distracted mother, Suzanne, and Song, the Taiwanese film student Suzanne hires to care for Simon, form an unlikely extended family connected by imagination, kindness, and a red balloon.
