Synopsis :

The most impressive campus love movie in 2022; a sensational adaptation of a true love story on Dcard platform; an eponymous novel translated into many foreign versions; an adaptation by and a film directed by Golden-Bell-Awards-winning screenwriter Ryan Tu.
A surprisingly fresh combination aspired to by fans: prominent Asian artist Eric Chou, eccentric newcomer Moon Lee, new-generation beau Edison Song Baiwei, “Wolfman” game idol Shou Lou, and Jean Jo (school beauty of Fu Jen Catholic University).

Youth always carries a unique taste. A foodie girl with food as the most important thing in life accidentally eats the breakfasts of a tender senior the whole year through. Eating not only heals but also brings the sour-sweet taste of first love. The story about her and her classmates also reflects collective experiences during adolescent growth.

For 17-year-old sophomore Xiang Wei-Xin (played by Moon Lee), food is the most important and healing thing in her life. It is in the school’s cafeteria that she meets senior Tao You-Quan (played by Eric Chou). At that time, Tao offered NT$5 to her so she can afford her favorite pineapple bread, for which she feels indebted to him. The next day, Xiang witnesses a breakup scene involving Tao and his cheating girlfriend by the school’s swimming pool, with the girl reluctant to separate. Xiang gets the idea of taking Fang Qi-Ran (played by Jean Ho), her best friend and school beauty, as an excuse for Tao to break up successfully. She considers this a brave act and repayment to Tao.

Fang begins to receive two breakfasts from suitors. She gives the food she dislikes to the foodie Xiang and avoids food waste. Xiang is more than happy to eat to the full every day without worrying about cash shortage.
Xiang cannot resist the temptation of milk tea offered by Zhang Yuan-Shuo (played by Edison Song), the school’s guitar club leader, and promises to play and sing at the club's results presentation. The problem is that she plays guitar...badly. The problem becomes less challenging for her after a chance encounter with Tao on the rooftop, where Tao agrees to be her guitar instructor.

Like 17-year-old girls around the world, Xiang imagines various aspects of her future self. Same for Tao, Fang, and Zhang around her.

The eventful year and the various questions about life are beyond their imagination at the beginning of the story. Fortunately, they finally found an answer during their growth together.

Origin of the Story

The story of My Best Friend’s Breakfast is derived from an article of the same title based on a true story, which was posted on Dcard, a social media platform for students, in 2015. The article based on girls’ perspectives and the romance of true love led to enthusiastic responses from netizens, including boys. With 50,000 likes and comments received, the article became a viral online topic of the year, forming common memories on the discussion about love among the students on the Dcard platform. The couple in the true story later got married and became the popular YouTubers “Breakfast Couple”.

This true love story was made into comics of the same title by A-bú. It was also adapted into a novel of the same title by the popular writer Misa in 2016, which went viral and was translated into several foreign versions. The eponymous movie is an adaptation of the novel. The Golden-Bell-Award-winning scriptwriter Ryan Tu wrote the script after meeting the said couple to understand their feelings about sending and eating breakfasts back then. This film on young and adorable love with a strong cast and crew was executive-produced by Soma Liang (“Do You Love Me as I Love You”) and launched on the big screen in January 2022 after four years of preparation.
