Biography: |
Tsai Ming-Liang (1957-) graduated from the Drama and Cinema Department of the Chinese Culture University. He co-founded Home Green Films. Initially a director and actor for stage plays, he discovered Lee Kang-Sheng, and they collaborated for films such as "Rebels of the Neon God" and "Vive l'Amour", which were highly praised. He is the director of "What Time Is It There" (shortlisted for the Cannes Film Festival), "Goodbye, Dragon Inn" (shortlisted for the Venice Film Festival), "The Wayward Cloud" (Outstanding Artistic Achievement at Berlin Film Festival), and "Stray Dogs" (Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival and Golden Horse Award for Best Director). He was commissioned by the Louvre Museum in France to make the film "Visage" based on its collection. In total, he has been shortlisted for the Venice Film Festival four times, the Cannes Film Festival three times, the Berlin International Film Festival three times, and the Golden Horse Award for Best Director eight times. His recent works include "Your Face" and "Days". |
