Lee Yun Chan devoted herself to filmmaking after graduating from National Taiwan University's Institute of Zoology in 1996. In 2003 she finished writing feature screenplay Neat Gene Love, a first of her works to relate to her studies, which won the Special-Selection Prize in the National Screenplay Contest in Taiwan. The Magical Washmachine is her directorial debut.
