Weng Ching-hsi was born in Taipei in 1936. He had perfect pitch since he was young and had taught himself Jazz music as well as various kinds of musical instruments. He also specialized in composition, arrangement and conducting. In 1962, he formed the Chinese Television Symphony Orchestra and had performed in many night clubs. In 1971, he formed the Chinese Television Band, in which he served as the head and conductor. Since the 1970s, he started composing film scores. His music talent was appreciated by musician Zhou Lan-ping and director Lee Hsing. He had written thousands of songs, including "Story of a Small Town," "The Moon Represents My Heart" and "Cupid." He also composed scores for roughly 80 films, including "He Never Gives Up," "Good Morning, Taipei" and "Lament of the Sand River." In 1981, he won the Golden Horse Award for best original film score for "My Native Land." In 2012, Weng passed away at the age of 77. |
