Ten years ago, in the town of Hsichih, Taipei County, a gruesome double-homicide took place. The police arrested an army serviceman. At first, he admitted to commit the crime alone, but later confessed that his younger brother had stood watch during the events. After arresting, his brother confessed that three other accomplices were friends he had been out with that night. One by one, the trio was arrested by the police and most of them received consecutive death sentences. As there was no direct evidence linking the three friends to the crime, numerous flaws in the investigation gradually surfaced. During this time, humanitarian groups have written letters, made appeals, and held demonstrations and silent vigils calling for the President to pardon the three death-row prisoners. Close
