With the local film industry already enjoying resurgence, the entrance of these highly creative artists is sure to inject even more excitement into local cinema. The 2011 version of the Golden Horse International Film Festival will feature over 300 screenings of nearly 200 short films and features that have been divided into 10 categories. Over 20 international guests will participate in the festival and organizers have planned six discussion sessions with directors Bela Tarr, Lee Chang-Dong, Sylvia CHANG, AOYAMA Shinji, SHNKAI Makoto, and Tomer Heymann . Film buffs are brimming with excitement at the fantastic line-up of films and the other events arranged to be held. The sets of package tickets with the limited number of agnes b. sample sets sold out almost immediately. Film festival CEO Wen Tian-hsiang and director Chen Jun-rong, along with film critic Yang Yuan-ling jointly explained the film selection activity, and over 600 film fans squeezed into the venue, carefully listening to introductions of each film, after which they decided on the slate of films that will be included in their individual ticket packages. Starry Starry Night director Tom Shu Yu Lin and male lead Lin Hui-min made a surprise appearance at the event to the delight of the fans. The two introduced the film, which will be screened during the festival. Director Lin remarked, "This is a film that is sure to make people more kind-hearted after they see it." It was also revealed the female lead Hsu Chiao-qin specifically requested that Lin Hui-min be her male counterpart. Lin was selected by the director and Hsu from dozens of handsome young men who read for the role as the most suited to play the character. Starry Starry Night will debut on November 3, with the film's leading actors, including Hsu, Lin, Liu Ruo-ying and Harlin all slated to be on hand. The feature that will open this year's festival is 10 + 10, a film that is attracting considerable interest as 20 directors have collaborated in making it. The five-minute portion contributed by Hou Hsiao-hsian, titled La Belle Epoque , was filmed just as a hint of autumn could be felt in the air. Previous Best Actress winner Shu Chi and Best Supporting Actress Mei Fang are featured in the film. The short film revolves around a set of gold jewelry, the story of which opens the door to happenings in the past. Director Hou said the film constitutes a perfect scale and melody, and that it portrays the value of emotional ties between people. Hou explained that he decided to go back to the area where A Summer at Grandpa's was filmed for this production, and he pointed out that this part of Tunglo is where the renowned writer Chu Tian-wen is from. During shooting, all of the employees of Hou's company got a day off, as they all brought their children to the set to serve as extras for the film. Tickets can be bought through the 7-11 ibon system. More information is available on the film festival's official website: Website: www.goldenhorse.org.tw/ Facebook: www.facebook.com/tghff
