Nominees of the 60th Golden Horse Awards

Nominees of the 60th Golden Horse Awards are announced today (October 3rd). This year, there are 552 submissions in total (78 narrative feature films, 2 animated features, 58 documentary features, 280 live action short films, 76 documentary short films and 58 animated short films). The nomination list was announced by CEO of the Festival Wen Tien-hsiang and winner of the 59th Golden Horse Awards Best Leading Actor Anthony WONG.


The competition is led by Snow in Midsummer with 9 nominations, followed by Marry My Dead Body and Eye of the Storm, both received 8 nominations. Other strong contenders include Abang Adik, Old Fox, Trouble Girl and The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon, each with 7 nominations.


Best Leading Actors nominees are HSU Kuang-han (Marry My Dead Body), Austin LIN (Marry My Dead Body), WU Kang-ren (Abang Adik), WANG Po-chieh (Eye of the Storm) and Ethan JUAN (The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon). Austin and Ethan are previous Golden Horse Awards winners, while HSU, WU and WANG are first-time nominees.


Best Leading Actress nominees are HU Ling (Carp Leaping Over Dragon's Gate), Audrey LIN (Trouble Girl), CHUNG Suet-ying (The Lyricist Wannabe), Monica LU (Day Off) and Jennifer YU (In Broad Daylight). Monica LU is previous Golden Horse Awards winner, Jennifer YU snatches her first nomination last year, and HU, LIN and CHUNG are first-time nominees.


This year’s Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year Award goes to LIN Shih-ken, a recognition to his unreserved dedication to filmmaking: serving as line producer or executive producer, from script development to supporting new directors, from blockbusters to independent productions, LIN has shown a solid capacity and vast ambitions in several of this year’s nominated Taiwanese films like Marry My Dead Body and Who'll Stop the Rain.


The 60th Golden Horse Awards Ceremony will be held on November 25th at National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei City. In addition to pay tribute to all the nominees, Chair of the Festival Mark LEE Ping-bing also encourages the inclusive invitations to film crews that are not covered by regular Awards categories, not only to share the glory altogether but also to acknowledge their devotion to filmmaking.


The selection process is divided into three stages: preliminary, shortlist and final. The jury panel includes esteemed film professionals and scholars and the winners will be voted by the final-stage jury led by Ang Lee on the day of the awards ceremony. The full list of the jury panel will be disclosed in mid-October.


All the nominated films will be screened in the Golden Horse Film Festival starting from November 9th; tickets on sale from October 28th. Screenings for the Audience Choice Award will take place in Hualien Railway Cinema, Vie Show Cinemas Hsinchu FE21 and Vie Show Cinemas Tainan FE21 on November 11th and 12th.
