Nominees of the 62nd Golden Horse Awards are announced on October 1st. This year the competition receives 593 submissions. (80 narrative features, 3 animation features, 64 documentary features, 310 live action short films, 79 documentary short films and 57 animated short films) The full list is revealed by hosts of this year’s red carpet: Pink YANG, Jake HSU and Payne PENG.
A Foggy Tale leads the race with eleven nominations, including narrative feature, director, leading actor, leading actress, original screenplay, visual effects, art direction, makeup & costume design, original film song, film editing and sound effects. Left-Handed Girl earned nine nods, including narrative feature, supporting actor, two supporting actresses, new director, new performer, original screenplay, cinematography and film editing. Two films follow with eight nominations, respectively: Mother Bhumi for narrative feature, director, leading actress, cinematography, makeup & costume design, original film score, original film song and sound effects; Family Matters for leading actor, leading actress, two supporting actors, supporting actress, new director, adapted screenplay and original film song.
Best Leading Actor nominees are: Richie KOH (A Good Child), Will OR (A Foggy Tale), CHANG Hsiao-chuan (Deep Quiet Room), CHANG Chen (Lucky Lu) and LAN Wei-hua (Family Matters).
Best Leading Actress nominees are: Caitlin FANG (A Foggy Tale), René LIU (Unexpected Courage), Ariel LIN (Deep Quiet Room), Alexia KAO (Family Matters) and FAN Bingbing (Mother Bhumi).
CEO of Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee, WEN Tien-hsiang, also announced Joy CHUNG as this year’s recipient of Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year. Jury citation, “as a gaffer, Joy CHUNG has served many fellow filmmakers reliable support and inspirations with her exquisiteness and concentration, and such a dedication spanned across diverse generations and genres of the projects she has worked with. This year, she contributed to A Foggy Tale for its boundless, murky atmosphere, and to Unexpected Courage for its exquisite ambience with warmth. Both exhibit CHUNG’s exceptional aesthetics and artistic touch. The jury would like to encourage Joy CHUNG with this award for her professional and skillful contribution in cinema lighting.”
Voting procedures of the 62nd Golden Horse Awards are carried out in three stages: preliminary, nomination and final. Winners of the awards will be voted on the day of the awarding ceremony, November 22nd. Jury lineup will be announced in late October.
All nominated films will be screened in the Golden Horse Film Festival, which begins on November 6th; tickets for sale from October 26th. Voting for the Audience Choice Award will be held on November 8th and 9th at Hualien Railway Cinema, Vie Show Cinemas Hsinchu FE21 and Vie Show Cinemas Tainan FE21 simultaneously. The 62nd Golden Horse Awards Ceremony will be held on November 22nd at Taipei Music Center.
