Biography: |
HSU Li-Kong was born in China in 1943. After graduating from Fujen Catholic University in Taipei, he pursued a career as a public servant in the central government. His involvement in the film business began when he was in charge of Chinese Taipei Film Archive in 1978. He was instrumental in establishing the Taipei Golden Horse International Film Festival. After working for the ruling Nationalist Party\'s Cultural Affairs Department, he joined Nationalist Party\'s Central Motion Picture Corporation (CMPC中央電影公司) as assistant general manager, and finally general manager. During his tenure at CMPC he helped Ang LEE (李安), TSAI Ming-Liang (蔡明亮), LIN Cheng-seng (林正盛), and other young directors to begin their film career. He was the producer for Ang LEE's first three films "Pushing Hands," (推手)", Wedding Banquet" (喜宴) and "Eat Drink Man Woman. " (飲食男女) He is also one of the producers of the international hit "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." (臥虎藏龍) TSAI Ming-Liang's "Vive L'Amour" (愛情萬歲) and "The River," (河流) as well as Edward YANG's "A Bright Summer Day," (牿嶺街少年殺人事件) and LIN Cheng-seng's "A Drifting Life," (春花夢露) "Murmur of Youth," (美麗在唱歌) "Sweet Degeneration " (放浪) are also produced by him. He left CMPC in 1997 to form Zoom Hunt International Production Co., which produces popular TV drama serials as well as feature films, including "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," Sweet Degeneration," "Love Go Go" (愛情來了) and "The Personals." (徵婚啟事) HSU has also written numerous television scripts. |
