In 1987, it was finally declared martial law ended in Taiwan. However, Kinmen and Matsu were still under military control. Dissatisfied with the different treatments, OENG Ming-Zhi and his people left for Taiwan, an island regarded as sharing the same autonomy under the same government as theirs. They urgently petitioned the official institutions in the government for having the Kinmen disarmed.
To their surprise, they not only failed their petition but were blacklisted in the name of "possibly interfering the security of battlefield", which led to their being restrained from staying in Taiwan and sent back to Kinmen.
After being homeless and blacklisted, OENG devoted himself more in the democratic activities such as fighting for the human right for the locals, freedom of migration, and protesting against the military control in the Kinmen area. After that, he also joined the elections for legislator and congressman, which could facilitate his will to work for his people with his utmost efforts and passion.
However, what he has done labels him as an eyesore for the authority. Relentlessly being oppressed by the superior force during his elections, he could not even receive the recognition from some conservatives in his homeland.
Now, Kinmen has been declared martial law ended for many years and developed its tourism where the unfair sovereignty is seldom seen. OENG, once being a radical, becomes less aggressive and engages in the social activities in his community as a father. How is his child going to say about him?
