A whimsical spoof of Taiwan cinematic traditions, Viva Taiwan Moooooooovie is a story about a small-time criminal, Pang, who kidnaps a film director under his boss’s orders. This unusual task has Pang wondering:“Taiwan cinema must be picking up again, if the mafia is willing to invest in it.” After locking the film director up in a dog cage, Pang visits a second-run cinema and watches a collage of classic Taiwanese movies whose reels are joined together by mistake.The scenes from these old Taiwanese movies bring Pang on a trip down Memory Lane as he recalls his childhood, his teenage years, and even his old country home – only to be brought straight back to present day when Pang finds a gun to his head. He is arrested by the police and the director is freed. In the police station, Pang tries to negotiate with the film director, reasoning with him: “As long as you listen to the boss and you’re willing to shoot what he wants you to shoot, why not help everyone—including yourself—make a little money? ” The film director starts to consider….
