Huang Bang-chuan was born in 1988 in Kaohsiung. He graduated from the Department of Cinema and Audiovisual at Université Paris III. He took part in the training program of Le Fresnoy National Contemporary Art Studio in Lille, and also received guidance from preeminent Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr. Huang’s works The Return Train and Last Year When the Train Passed by were recognized at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival two years in a row. Last Year When the Train Passed by was shortlisted in the MoMA Doc Fortnight 2019 and nominated for Taipei Film Awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Short Film.
