Mr. Tsai is a writer. He writes songs, lyrics, and pens novels. Usually he works at night. Every morning after finishing his work, he goes to the 7-11 next door for breakfast. It becomes a routine for him.
Hsiao Feng, the 7-11 shop assistant, becomes intrigued by this strange customer. She has just got out of a relationship. Her boyfriend, Hsiao Pan, is a good-for-nothing. She gets herself a job at the 7-11, hoping to settle down into a simple life. Mr. Tsai's arrival gives her something to look forward to.
The TV drama series, Raincoat, is extremely popular. It tells the story of a Taiwanese student falls in love with a retired Geisha coming to Taiwan to study Chinese. Before the woman leaves, she follows Japanese convention by presenting the man with a raincoat as a token of her feelings.
A woman is also expressing her feelings for Mr. Tsai in the same way. For the past few months he has been interviewing a Japanese Geisha for a documentary. Before she leaves, she expresses her feelings for Tsai.
Meanwhile, Hsiao-pan has located Hsiao-feng. Hsiao-feng finds herself caught up in a tumultuous relationship. She wants to escape, and leaves her phone number for someone to give it to Mr. Tsai.
Mr. Tsai, Kikuliu, Hsiao Feng and the male and females leads in Raincoat all have seeds of love budding in their hearts, longing for the nourishment of rain in spring.
