Christopher Doyle

Director , Cinematography、Position(攝影指導Director of Photography)

Born in 1952 in Australia, Christopher Doyle is one of the most important cinematographers in the modern Chinese film industry. After relocating to Taiwan in the late 1970s, he met director Hou Hsiao-hsien and Stan Lai. He later collaborated with Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. In 1981, he was invited by director Edward Yang to shoot his first feature film "That Day, on the Beach," which later won the Best Cinematography at the Asia Pacific Film Festival in 1983. Since then, he has engaged in working as a cinematographer.

In 1986, he went to France for shooting director Claire Devers' "Noir et blanc," which later won Caméra d'Or at Cannes Film Festival. In 1990, he began his long-term collaboration with Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai after shooting Wong's "Days of Being Wild," which was a success for its combination of poetic script and beautiful shot. Doyle had also collaborated with several world-renown directors including Sylvia Chang, Chen Kuo-fu, Chen Kai-ge, Zhang Yi-mou, Gus Van Sant, and Jim Jarmusch later on.

Having worked in the film industry for decades, Doyle has won numerous awards including Vulcan Award at the Cannes Film Festival and Osella d'Oro for Best Cinematography at the Venice International Film Festival. He is also the winner of multiple Golden Horse Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards.
