Setia, an Indonesian maid, and Supayong, a construction worker from Thailand, are two illegal foreigners who drift between Taipei and Taoyuan,looking for job opportunities. They share the burden of their loneliness with each other and develop a gentle relationship full of humor using Chinese, the language of their host country and a language that both are still learning. From a dilapidated farm to a massage parlor, Setia wanders from job to job, eventually settling down at a noodle shop, where she becomes acquainted with a retired movie star, Man-Guan Fei. Out of sympathy, Setia cares for the crippled and suicidal Fei by keeping her company, but soon discovers the shocking accident that happened to her sister, who used to work for Fei. When Supayong is arrested by the police and threatened with deportation, Setia is forced by this harsh reality to go against her religion, continuing her life as an illegal laborer, drifting in the gutters of Taiwanese society.
