Zoom Hunt International Productions Co., Ltd. was formed on March 28, 1997. Mr. Li-Kong HSU is the president of the company. Mr. HSU is the most respected producer in Taiwan. His unique appreciation has turned many films from underdogs into box-office hits. These films include PUSHING HANDS,(推手) THE WEDDING BANQUET, VIVE L\'AMOUR,(愛情萬歲) TROPICAL FISH,(熱帶魚) etc. His recognition for talents has discovered many directors, who would have otherwise been buried. These directors include Ang LEE,(李安) TSAI Ming-Liang,(蔡明亮) CHEN Yu-Hsun,(陳玉勳) LIN Cheng-Sheng,(林正盛) etc. His insistence has afforded the completion of many films, which would have otherwise been terminated halfway. One good example is the completion of CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON.(臥虎藏龍) It was as if completing an impossible mission, which later on brought international recognition.
Zoom Hunt has produced three feature films in 1997: LOVE, GO GO(愛情來了) by CHEN Yu-Hsun, SWEET DEGENERATION(放浪) by LIN Cheng-Sheng, and THE PERSONALS(徵婚啟事) by CHEN Kuo-Fu. In 2000, two films produced by Zoom Hunt were completed–CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, directed by Ang LEE; and FLEEING BY NIGHT,(夜奔) directed by Li-Kong HSU and YIN Chi.(尹祺) MIGRATORY BIRD,(候鳥) directed by DING Yar-Min.(丁亞民) BRAVE 20,(鹹豆漿) directed by Ming-Tai WANG(王明台) was completed in 2002. LOVE, GO GO won both the Best Supporting Actor and the Best Supporting Actress Awards in 1997 Golden Horse Film Festival. The film was also chosen to compete in the Young Cinema category in 1997 Tokyo Film Festival. SWEET DEGENERATION entered 1998 Berlin Film Festival for official competition. THE PERSONALS was selected to be shown in Un Certain Regard by 1999 Cannes Film Festival. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Zoom Hunt has developed and produced many projects oriented towards the international markets.
In television, Zoom Hunt produced many popular television serials including FOUR DAUGHTERS,(四千金,1997) CLOSER THAN SISTERS,(情比姊妹深,1997) FORBIDDEN LOVE,(日落紫禁城,1998) HAPPY FAMILY,(歡喜人家,1998) APRIL RHAPSODY,(人間四月天,2000) THE ORANGES GROVE,(橘子紅了,2001) STORY OF TRAVELERS(旅人的故事,2001) and SUNRISE.(日出,2002) In 2003 THE LEGEND OF EILEEN CHANG,(她從海上來:張愛玲傳奇) directed by Yar-Min DING, was completed. Currently, the filming of HER DRIFTING HEART(心戀) is in progress, expected to be completed in the summer of 2004.
